: Any suggestions?
The advice you were given is true -- when the iguana is tiny, they can get behind, under and in things (especially like heaters, small cracks, closets, top of doors, so if you do let them out, you should be supervising. You will find there are certain places your iguana likes to go more than others, so if it would be missing, you have a place to start looking.
I had my iguana in a cage for about 6-8 months. After he outgrew it, I put him in a spare room I had upstairs. I cleaned it out and turned it into a bedroom. I had Max (my ig) by the window on top of an end table, then another end table and then finally a huge dog pen. I only cage him when I go away overnight and I need a "sitter".
I have a piece of plexiglass I use as a "gate". That way I can pass the room and see how he is. Sometimes I will extend his roaming area by closing the other bedroom door and putting the "gate" at the top of the steps. Then Max can roam in the hall, the bedroom and the bathroom. If you let yours free roam, you have to make sure you don't let things lying around on the floor (small objects especially). Mine is now about 3 feet long and can't get under all the places he used to be able to, so he's easier to find.
I've also heard (but don't know how true it is) that free-roamers are more pleasant, since they're not stuck in a cage all the time. I can tell you mine is a great iguana and never aggressive.
Hope this helps.......nanci
