Greens are, without a doubt, the most important part of any iguana's diet. In the wild, they do not have access to that vegetables that we do, they live off of leafy greens.
Although I am not a student of MK, I believe her suggestion of feeding veggies before greens is due to the fact that some iguanas will only eat greens and skip the veggies. The veggies are an important source of vitamins!
Dr. Frye suggests that an iguana's diet should be comprised of large amounts of dark leafy greens, smaller amounts of vegetables, fruits and flower petals, with other items (like bread, rice, etc.) used as treats.
It has been and continues to be my opinion, based on my own experience and book reading, that, unless there is some medical necessity, supplementation of vitamins and minerals is not needed IF the iguana is getting proper UV exposure AND a large variety of foods as part of a nutritonally sound diet.
