: Why should i only use card occasionaly how often?

It's goitrogenic and has too much oxalate. It extracts iodine from the diet, which leads to problems with growth and other things. Oxalates bind dietary calcium, which is devastating if too much is eaten. 1/4 cup two or three times per month is ok.

Chard is just one of the veggies that if fed in excess cause problems. Examples of others are raw beet tops, kale, spinach, broccoli, bok choy, iceberg lettuce & baby lettuce mixes (nearly zero nutrition), bananna, bread and more. Lack of nuitrition, calcium absorbers and iodine absorbers are the main problems. Some of these relatively common veggies can cause kidney and bladder stones.

Here is a reference to a Web site that gives directions about choosing good ig diets:

That said, my igs still get beet tops, kale and bok choy once in a while for variety. They just *love* bananna, so they get a bite per day or so, for human-ig relations sake.

Roger
