Cracking the "Social" whip

I've read many times that when your trying to socalize an iguana you should always follow through when you try to pick them up and take them out, otherwise they think they've won the situation and you lose some "top iguana" status. While I dont have a problem with understanding that, I have a situation to discuss.

What if you just happen to walk by the enclosure and your Iggy freaks out, running all over the cage to get away from you, just as if you're trying to get him out... but your not. So, you walk away, as you were'nt intending on getting him out anyway. But as I think; your ig 'thinks' you were coming to get him out, he freaked out, you walked away, do you still loose some status, even though you didnt try to get him? And if this happens (You walking by and he freaks out) should you take him out for just a sec, to be sure you dont loose the status?

If you made it this far, thanks for reading it at least, but some insight would be appreciated.
