In Reply to: do iggys eat buggies?? :-) posted by badgrrl on November 05, 2001 at 21:37:22:
: Hi all!
: My baby ig is doing pretty well - I've got her some "furniture" to climb on - new rock, fake tree, and chunk of driftwood -- but I was reading a book I bought about ig care and I had a question about part of it.
: The book says that young igs are more carnivorous than big ones and that I should be feeding crickets or mealworms in addition to regular veggie diet. Is this true? I haven't seen any mention of feeding bugs in any of the other posts so I thought I would check to see if anybody here feeds bugs to their baby igs. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
Some of the newer iguana care books are based on the old ones and not very reliable. That sounds like it might be one of them. From what I was told, iggies can get their protein from alfalfa (soaked) or alfalfa tea sprinkled on their food, but NOT animal protein in any form.
