Hi MaryAnn!
I know how difficult it can be to deal with someone in dire need of a rectal craneotomy. I've recently encountered such people myself. It was only when good friends of mine made me step outside of the situation that I saw things differently and managed not to take it personally.
Someone once told me, when I was much younger, that I couldn't change the world -I laughed at them like children often do, feeling invincible. Then I became older and was introduced to the real world and I understood what my elders had been trying to say. We can't change the world, as much as we would like to, we can't change the world but we can set an example by living our lives to the best of our ability. While it pains us to see a living creature not being cared for properly, we are not going to be able to share proper education with everyone. Sometimes the best that we can do is to show them how wrong they are is by continuing to do the things that we know to be right.
Ball pythons do not grow to 20 feet, that is a fact. Iguanas should not eat a diet comprised of animal protein, we know this to be fact. If it makes you feel any better -print out a care sheet and put it in your car for the next time you see this person. One for ball pythons, one for iguanas. Quietly hand it to him and say something like "I thought you might be interested in this -read it when you have the chance". This way, you do not bruise his obviously over inflated sense of self importance and yet you feel comforted in kowing you did something to try to help his iguana.
I would like to formally welcome you to the family of humanity -you are in good company here. There are lots of folks who feel just like you do, just ilke I do. you will find that opinions may be as different as night and day but here we all have a common goal of respecting all living things and trying to do right by them! When you come across someone in dire need of a rectal craneotomy -you can always offer to provide it to them free of charge and I don't think the rest of us will mind one bit!
Smile! Know that you are in good company!
Cheers!
Jenna
