: How can I create more humidity in my ig's enclosure? He always seems to have shedding problems because he doesn't have enough humidity. He is in a wire mesh custom build enclosure so I can understand how hard it will be to create the amount of humidity needed. Any and all info is appreciated. Thanks!
Do you give your ig a nice bath every day or a couple of times a week? I find that helps with shedding as does spraying him a few times day. You can get one of those inexpensive spray bottles at the dollar store and use warm water and spray him whenever you think of it. It's very humid in PA in the summer, so I turn the AC vent off in the room Max is in and open the window. He gets plenty of humidity during those times. Now, it's rather dry, so I will continue to do what I said above and also put a bowl of water in the room, preferably on the heat register if you have one (or radiator) or just sitting around. It will evaporate into the air and give a little more humidity. In fact, when my daughter was a little girl and had trouble with the dryness in the house, the doctor is the one who told me to set bowls of water in her room.
If you have the money, you can invest in a room humidifier. You can get a little one that gives off cool vapor for under $20. The larger ones that look like a piece of furniture (of course) are considerably more. Last winter I picked up one of the little ones and when you fill it, it lasts about six hours until a refill is needed.
I think they turn off automatically and can be bought at any K-mart or pharmacy.
