: I was wondering if I let my iguana roaming freely in the house , will they pass the bacteria? if I let it sit on the couch and later on I sit on it would I get it? would my other pets in the house get it if the iguana roaming around the house freely??
When your iggie "goes", be sure you wipe up the spot with a disinfectant. Also, after you touch it or play with it, wash your hands. Keep the cage clean and free of waste and disinfect that, too. I do remember reading sick people, older people and real young people are more susceptible to picking up salmonella.
Supposedly, even if your iggy has a salmonella test at the vet and it comes back negative, it doesn't mean it doesn't have it (I remember reading that on another board).
