Iguana has grapefruit-sized tumour removed
An Iguana named Osiris is recovering, after a vet removed a tumour the size of grapefruit from her bladder.
The six-year-old green lizard weighed five pounds when her American owner took her to see reptile specialist Dr Howard Schwartz.
After her life-saving operation she weighed just four.
Dr Schwartz says it's astounding Osiris survived with the huge stone inside her.
"No-one has seen one close to being this big," he said.
He said he had checked with several other reptile vets and the largest stone anyone encountered before was about the size of a golf ball.
He compared the iguana's plight to a person carrying a tumour weighing 30 pounds.
He says Osiris's owner is taking good care of her at home in Clarkston, Michigan.
She has been eating since the operation and should now be able to process food and water normally, reports the Oakland Press.
