: Well, for the past 2 weeks I have had my iguana out for extended periods of time. Like...3 hours and stuff. I was just wondering what I could do to have him in my room all day with my supervision? I home-school this year and I might do it next year so I have all the time in the world to watch him. I let him run all over my room, on my bed, under my desk, etc. and I always see him...if I loose him I can find him as quick as the snap of my fingers. So I was just wondering what I could do so he can get his special UV and heat? I will just have him out for the day but at night he will sleep in his cage. And yes, he has a huge cage! I just LOVE it when he's out, that is all. Thanks in advance!

Rachel:

I have my iguana in "my" room. I'm a married older adult, but have a spare bedroom upstairs where I spend a lot of time. It has all the bedroom furniture, as well as one of my chairs I used to have in the living room (that's where my iguana sleeps at night, with a cover over it like a tent). I have a large dog cage in there and he spends his time basking on top of the cage and can run around the room when he wants to. I have a pole light and I clip the silver reflector with the iguana's bulb in it. I can move it depending on where the iguana is (i.e., sometimes laying at the window; sometimes on the cage top). I also have the cage set up hear a large window, so the iguana has something to do when he's basking. He spends a great deal of time there. I have a human heating pad set on low and the light, so he keeps very warm. I have the UVB bulb sitting next to him (it doesn't get hot), so he benefits from that. I usually block the doorway with an old plastic panel from one of my doors. This way he can see out and we can see in. It's only about 2' high and I'm sure once he gets much bigger, I'll have to think of something else.

Our house has a center stairway with a bedroom on each side of the hall and a bathroom in the middle. Once in a while I will put the partition at the top of the stairs and close the other bedroom door. This allows him to run around in the hall and the bathroom (where I often find him on top of the towel rack or hanging on my daughter's robe). Just make sure your iguana can't get at things. One day I had a table set up in the room and I was working on a jigsaw. Well, he got up there and from there went to the dresser and knocked the lamp over as well as all of my bath spray bottles and makeup. All of the pictures were laying on the floor.

You said you are going to be in there a lot keeping an eye on him which is good in the beginning -- then you can "fix" things when you see yours get after them.

I'm home all day, too, and I spend a lot of time with mine. I also bring him downstairs (he's sitting on the top of the chair right now) and let him roam around. I think by not having them caged up, they are more mellow (just my opinion).
