He'll close his eyes in annoyance, but only tolerates touching for a short time. I can grind his nails, a couple at a time, or pick him up for a minute or two. A big no-no with him is to touch his nape or the back spines. He interprets that as an aggressive gesture. Isn't that the place iguanas try to grab each other when fighting? As a dominance thing? If I inadvertantly do that, he eithter scratches with his hind foot(in a good mood), or makes a feint and chomp in my direction(in a bad mood). The way his jaws snap, I really don't relish the thought of being bitten. Fortunately, he is too nice to REALLY want to bite me, so far.
Oh, and towels, sheets, and such things are also not tolerated. I am amazed that some of you can wrap your iggies in a towel... Guy will sit ON a towel, after a bath, but I can't put it over his back or head (the "neck/spines touching thing" again).
Oddly enough, Pablo, the mascot Ig at the petstore where I work, loves having his sides and back scratched, actually leans into your hands. He'll move under my fingers untill i am rubbing "the good spot", and then sits still. He does not like people touching his head or nape though, exept for one small spot right under his chin. He's a little boy, about 1/3 of Guy's mass, and maybe 3.5 years old.
