Sarah, your ig's reaction is pretty typical. Closing the eyes and arching the back, craning the neck, standing a little taller, are all pretty typical reactions to being touched or stroked. As much as we would like to believe that the iguana does this because it likes the touching, it's mostly a universal " if I can't see it, it's not there, and can't hurt me" reaction. That's not to say that some igs don't like and solicit touching, because they do, but the majority, in my experience, do this as a defense measure.
