My Igums Tail

A couple of days ago my Mr. Igums decided to jump from the arm of my couch to a very large floor vase. Needless to say it fell over, not enough time for me to catch it. Anyway, the vase hit my ig's tail, it's slightly swollen in the spot where it hit and I'm not sure theres any blood going to the end of it. He broke his tail when he was a baby and we managed to save it. What are the signs I should look for if there is no blood going to the lower part. I'm afraid the vet here will just want to cut it off say la vee. Anyone with words of wisdom?
