: : : hey, when i put food in the aquarium for Egor, i sprinkle a couple leaves of collard around him to show him there's food in there for him. well, today he ate what was around him, but nothing out of his dish. is he spoiled? also, i had been feeding him a lot of lettuce for about a week and i gave him a treat of pears and oranges and tomatos, and he didn't touch them. he didn't eat at all yesterday. today i put him in the bathtub for about 30 min. and he pooped 3 times (quite big). y doesnt' he eat out of his dish any more? is he spoiled and is there any way i can get him to eat out of it again? about the sprinkling it in the tank, if i dont', he won't know it's there (i guess), and won't eat any thing. that's y i do it.

: : Giving an iguana lettuce is like giving him nothing. It has absolutely no nutrients or anything beneficial to an iguana. The collards are one of the best things to feed him, so continue with the collards. You can also run them under water before you put them in the enclosure to give your iggie more liquid.

: : My iguana prefers eating her leaves whole and her other food cut up and on a flat dish (such as an old top from a Cool Whip container). It's much easier for her to get to and I make individual little piles of food for her.

: : Romaine lettuce is about the only lettuce you can give your iguana (not a lot) because it has a lot of much-needed liquid in it.

: : Dandelion greens, turnip tops, mustard greens, escarole/endive are also good for your iguana.
: : Try to keep them from drying out (I put the collards in a pitcher of water and some of the others wrapped in paper toweling and in plastic bags). It keeps the veggies more moist and fresher longer.

: : Fruits should only make up about l0 percent of your iguana's diet. Cantaloupe, figs and berries are good. In the warm weather, watermelon (sparingly) is good to give the iguana moisture.

: : hey, i was told no spinach b/c it lowers calcium levels. is that true? my bio teacher told me this when i asked what she fed her's (b4 i got Egor!). she told me flowers, rose stems and pettles, lettuce, strawberry, banana, and dry food. is this an ok diet for her's? he's pretty big he was big when she got it and she's had him for 4 yrs. any wayz, it it true not to feed him spinach?

Georgia:

Yes, I've also heard spinach isn't good. Neither are members of the cabbage family (cabbage, brussels sprouts, broccoli, etc.). However, you can feed them bits of this, but NOT that often.
I have never given mine spinach. Once in a while I buy the loose baby green mix and there might be some in there, but that's very rarely, too.

There are foods I didn't mention that are good, too. Rose petals, hibiscus are two I remember seeing. Collard greens are one of the best. I listed some others in the note before this one.

Hope this helps you.
