my iguana HATES me

I got my ig labor day my dad found him he looked abused skinny brown brown tail broken two toes, hes plump and bright green now hes about 2.5 feet he lives in my bathroom. Whenever i go in the bathroom he sticks his dewlap out and keeps and eye on me and whne i pet him he arches his back up and if i try to hold him he grips onto whatever hes on and makes it almost ipossivle for mne too, what can i do? thanks
