Shirley got her stiches out yesterday. She won't be able to wear a bikini anymore but, other than that, the scar healed beautifully. No more springtime egg worries either!
We had our first real cold snap yesterday too, on the first day she's been allowed back into the general population (i.e. back into a cage where she can climb), so the other 3 Iggies had to move into their inside cage. Nice timing, as that always mean a little territorial establishment is normal.
Normal yes...but I'm still seeing a little more than usual between her and Lil'Girl. Lil'Boy is the only male and, although he's had a good growth spurt this summer, still the smallest of the 4. Shirley and Lil'Girl usually alternate for the beta spot. With Shirley being out of the mix for the last 6 weeks though, Lil'Girl got pretty comfortable having the beta position to herself and it seems she's rather reluctant to share. Romeo, secure in her alpha position, is oblivious to the power stuggle. . .and Lil'Boy just seems to be getting off on the cat fights (typical, huh?). Lil'Girl is pretty puffed up about the whole thing though and she and Shirley are having allot of "pushing" matches. Literally....Lil'Girl will puff up and Shirley push her snout against Lil'Girls side.
Shirley's usually a very non-agressive girl, but she's adament about her position & is even opening her mouth to bite. Not good. Looks like I'm going to have to keep a close eye on this power struggle!
