First I would never let the kids handle the iguana. I know their safety comes first and I do know it would be my BUTT if anybody got hurt THANK YOU! : First let me say I admire and respect teachers. Im very glad that my first grader has a great teacher. Im a mother of a first grader, a kindergartener, a 3 yr old and have an iguana in a household. I also volunteer to help in the class room and KNOW how Crazied a regular day is Let alone add the excitment of an animal in the room (I have brough our dog and rabbit and guinea pig for SHORT visits to classrooms). As a mom of a first grader and as an iguana owner I think it is a HORRIBLE Idea for you to bring him in. WE all KNOW that our iguanas can be sweet loveable one minute and biting our fingers the next. Add that "normal" behavor to a class of approx 15 (amount in my daughters class) oohing, ahhin, and grabbing kids could result in if not tail whipping, nail scratches or even bites. I would be one that would be HIGHLY upset if my childs teacher brought a "wild" animal into the class room let alone for the kids to be exposed all day. Do you know the health history of your students as samonilla even the slightest percentages of chance that they are a carrier that child with the immume system exposed or supressed could become sick. WHY not do a video of your iguana bring photos and that instead of bringing the wild animal that could possibly harm the students. ALso its YOUR BUTT if one of those kids get hurt. Does your school board realize what an iguana is do they know you are bringing her? Are they going to back you up in court if a child should get bite? Just rethink this for not only your students safety, the safety of your iguana and the safety of your job.
