: One is that iguanas get most of their water through their greens. It is good to spray their greens. Pellets cause dehydration. This is hard on the kidneys.

: Another reason is that pellets are loaded with oats and corn. The calcium/phospherus content is not right.

: Pellets may be used for vacations. My vet says to add water.


Would like to see documentation that dehydration is a direct result of feeding pellets. I would think that it is mostly caused by too low of an ambient humidity, as even an ig fed a "textbook perfect" diet can and will have hydration problems with low relative humidity.

There are also brands available with exactly zero corn and oats in them.

Fact is there is no studies on whether an iguana can or cannot live a long healthy life on a good quality pelleted diet.
