IGUANA GUILT.... PLEASE HELP

When i was about 11 i got an iguana and although i loved him, i cared for him incorrectly for about 8 years until he died. Now i am a more conscientious herp owner (healthy columbian boa), but i am still riddled with guilt when i recall my childhood friend.
What should i do???
