Hi everyone, I am an iguana caretaker looking for an adoptee for a very healthy three year old male iguana. I adopted him myself three years ago, not expecting to get pregnant just two years later. My son and the iguana have gotten along fine, although it has been difficult giving the lizard the attention he needs to become "tame" aside from the basics such as fresh water, fruits and vegetables and unfiltered sunlight daily during the spring and summer with UV supplements during the winter months. With these cares given he is a fairly good-natured creature but will not allow himself to be picked up without some difficulty. (I can carry him in my arms but he is clingy and tense about it)
I am relocating to New Mexico soon but in the time between now and finding a house there I am staying at my in-laws house with my husband. Simply put, there is no room for a five foot iguana in the house and with the nights growing too cold outside even for nocturnal lamps,I am not going to subject the poor dear to a life in the garage for almost a year.
If anyone experienced in herp care is open for adding another or perhaps a first Iguana to their collection I would be extremely grateful. I can deliver him within a two hour radius of FT Benning/Columbus, GA. He is turqouise green/blue in color with yellow legs which change to orange during april/march and has nice tall spikes and dark black markings on his tail and body. He lives in a full size parrot cage.
He gets aggressive in the spring with mating season and is not for children or people who do not have experience with herps. Care for iguanas takes much more time than the average snake or lizard as you must make a fresh salad for them daily, sometimes 2-3 times a day. They also require sunlight more than any other lizard, and it is my opinion that uv supplementation is simply not enough.
