Well, a few days ago Tarzan got out of his cage. It's in my room, so I wasn't too afraid. I just figured he's show up on the window that evening like he always does. A couple days went by and he still didn't show up. I had feared that he may have ripped down the plastic that I used to cover the cold air return vent and ventured into there. I searched my whole room from every nook to every cranny. I searched my closet, under my bed, dresser, all around, around his new cage which is undergoing construction (one of the reasons the cold air return vent wasn't covered). Today we got a mirror and a high power flashlight. We discovered him sitting in the cold air return duct. Just laying there and relaxing. God you have no idea how relieved I was to see him!!!! The cold air return is unaccessible through vents because it is behind drywall. So I left some blueberries in the vent to lure him out, he just loves blueberries. Its what I used to get him out of the jacuzzie when he decided to crawl into there (I covered it with a towel and weighed down the ends but he managed to pull that down and get in) So I found myself laying next to the opening shining a flashlight in and throwing blueberries to him. He just followed like a kid after candy. I'm just hoping this is the same case with the ducts. Gawsh, I was so relieved to find him sitting in there, not far in. I don't want to stick my hand in and scare him deeper in though.
He's racked up many escape stories in the year of residency with me. One time he got away outside and I had to crawl up slowly (he broke out of his leash, boy is he afraid of vehicles!!), he got into the jacuzzi, and in the central air cold air return duct! at only about 1.5 years of age!!!
*sighs* Wish me luck everyone.... I'm sitting on the edge of my seat, just hoping he comes out on his own.
And another thing.. as a NYer (not NYC though) I am scared out of my wits about the Trade Center and other acts of terrorism which occured today!! My good wishes and thoughts go to them. If I was just a few years older I'd donate blood (despite my HUGE fear of needles, I almost blacked out when I had my blood drawn at the doctors! They made me sit with my head between my knees for about 15mins...) But I'm rambling again...
Good wishes for Tarzan's safe return from the vent and for the families of the deceased and injured victims of the horrendous acts of terrorism
