I in no way wish to bash the HSUS...and I don't think fairness is a part of this. I understand that fundamentally life is not fair ;) I don't even stand behind those that say they should take care of puppy mills and leave herpers alone. I think that the reptile industry has a long way to go, but I do not feel that a ban is the way to go. I have supported the humane society with donations for a very long time, but not on this...and I think this petition will hopefully be a wake up for the herpers, the reptile industry and the Humane Society. We need more education, we need to change the way reptiles are sold (perhaps limiting the sale to only CB animals), with breeders needing a permit to catch X number of wild reptiles for breeding purposes, and a way to regulate the process so that we don't end up with "lizard mills". Pet shops should HAVE to supply care sheets with info on salmonella (care sheets for chicken re: salmonella would help as well) and sorry young herpers...but there should be an age limit for buying a reptile UNLESS you have a parent with you. As I said..I am not going to bash the HSUS...but I am going to oppose them vehemently. Thanks for reading...The best thing to come from this petition is the dialog. I hope it sheds more light than heat.
