In Reply to: strange question... Do Iggy's need potty training? posted by Nikki's Dad on September 05, 2001 at 23:22:03:
You have to train them to go where and when you want. Iguanas do tend to have a natural tendancy to go in water, which I think is why most people tub train. You don't say how big your iguana is, but it has been my experience that once they are around a year old, they settle down to going once a day, which makes it easier for us. I ususally take mine to the tub and turn the shower on warm, and put him in. (You can let yours soak in a bath if the shower scares him.) Do this every day, and he will get the hint. Once the iguana goes, you know your couch is safe! (Ususally...) I had one that was so well trained, he would go to the tub by himself when he had to go! Another one I had to remember to put in the tub before I let her roam. The only thing I notice is that once they are trained, they really count on you to let them out to go. They will hold it for quite a surprizing amount of time until you put them in the potty.
