In Reply to: Has anyone here ever needed to use vitamin B therapy? msg posted by Ig Chick on September 05, 2001 at 12:35:54:
Yes I had to use a vitamin B injection for one of my Males 7 years ago. He was on antibiotics and it destroyed the gut flora which in turn also caused a vit b deficiency. At first I didn't know what was wrong, his hind legs and tail were paralized and he also strained to have poops, seemed to have a very hard time getting anything out. I took him to the vet that had him on antibiotics and he gave him the injectable vit B shot. Within 8 hrs the Ig was on his feet running around like nothing had ever happened.
An injection is the way to go if it's a true vit b deficiency, oral vit b takes much longer to work. However the same vet did say that it probably wouldn't hurt to add vit B to the diet, using a crushed multi vit B tablet. His dose was 25mg for an adult Ig, vit b is water soluable so the danger of a toxic reaction is minimal.
