:I am not sure exactly how old he is. I heard somone say that hatchlings are about 9" stl and I would say my HOSS is about 12" stl..so still a baby I would say!!!! : As far as a medium sized cage I think the dimensions sound ok. But another option would be to build the larger cage but close off a section of it so you only have to heat the section he is in and that way you can remove the barrier to expose the other side of the enclosure when he begins to out grow the one side. Just another idea. He will have to have a full size enclosure by the time he is two and half to three years old anyways. Depending on how old he is right now.
: I went with wood and plexi-glass as well and it is very easy to clean but the plexi-glass does scratch which is why some people probably use glass. My enclosure is 6' X 6' X 4' Deep.

: : I want to start building my enclosure next month, but wanted the input of some you in here. Now I know the "bigger is better" theory, but I don't want to go too big to start. I would rather build a medium sized one first and then build another one once HOSS outgrows the first one. I know this is more expensive in the long run, but I don't want some huge enclosure to heat since he's just a baby. So what do you think?? I was thinking wood frame with slide out plexiglass panels for easy cleaning, and the size around 4x4x3.....let me know!!!
