I clean up after Roxy everyday, and anytime I happen to see she has gone to the bathroom. It keeps the crap off her tail and underside if she happens to throw a fit of sorts (when I am late on refilling the food!)

And for general cleanly-ness I wouls definitly cage the paper everyday/water everyday and yeah keeping the decorations in the cage the same will probably help a younger ig along the way.
