HD,
You DO realize that that "natural sunlight" stuff is still roughly 5x more "dangerous" than these bulbs as far as UV output, yes ?
Handheld radiometer readings taken in Holyeton, Illinois recorded a top UVB reading of 259 microwatts at 1 p.m. June 20th, 2001. Thats roughly 209 more microwatts more than that output of a 100 watt flood at 1 foot (50 microwatts). Readings taken 2 feet away from a 100 watt flood bulb recorded a whopping 12.5 microwatts.
We're currently running *6* Active bulbs in the house. Started using them roughly May. Haven't noticed any ill side effects for us yet. No increased headaches, no strained eyes, no second or third heads growing.....
If I'm going to be IN an enclosure working for awhile I WILL turn the bulb off - moreso because it gets HOT under the things. I don't sit and stare at the bulbs for extended peroids of time (they ARE rather bright) but by the same token, I don't stare at the sun either. The biggest complaint I have about these bulbs is that when you run a 160 watt flood and a 100 watt flood in two enclosures a 10x12 room it CAN get a bit warm. My computer doesn't care for it too much.

Otherwise, there are no iguana raisins being created here, my eyes aren't melting out of my head, and my lymph nodes don't argue with me any more than they did before we started using Active bulbs..... Unfortunately, we can't get our guys/gals out into natural sun very often here. Until that can happen, we're very happy with the results we're getting with these bulbs. As it should be, everyone's entitled to their opinion. Just thought you'd like a little more info for your "files"....
