I think a lot depends on the breed of dog that you have and possibly which came first the ig or the dog.
The terriers and some hunting breeds would IMHO not be safe as someone else mentioned.
We had an old german sheperd prior to getting our igs. They got along fine, however, the dog was raised with our children as infants and had been "trained" to leave babies (all kinds LOL) alone.
After the passing of Blue we got Shadow a few months later....yet another german sheperd. This pup was taught not to mess with the igs. He is now 2 yrs. old. When the igs are out for exercise, he literally gets up and leaves whatever room they are roaming. LOL Pretty funny in a way....huge dog with ears back throwing cautious glances over shoulder to see if that big green thing is catching up to him!
He comes up and looks in to their enclosures. They have never shown fear of him but they knew the other dog from the time that they (the igs) were babies.
Guess I'd have to say that breed and timing are the most important factors.
Good luck & if you decide to do this, you MUST keep an eye on things even tho you feel pretty confident in each animal's safety from the other one.
