Yeh ! Right ! Inflate the price of iguanas to that price and then maybe I could get $200 on my common cornsnakes ! FYI on the price of bearded dragons poster down below, you can walk into a herp show and find beardies for $15-$25. I'm a true lover of iguanas and have made attempts to breed them. It would be a far cry for me to ever consider paying $200 for an iguana. Not only would it keep some people from buying them but for that price it would keep MANY people from ever keeping them period !
Let's use the gray-band snake (alterna) as an example. Back in the 70ties alterna was at a price range of $200-$300 plus. Because they were not common. But when the word got out on the location of these beautiful snakes the hunt was on. People flocked to the Trans Pecos part of Texas (including me). So in the next several decades thousands may have been caught. (the lower thousands and nothing close to the imported or farm raised iguanas). Then the market got a little saturated and prices strated to drop. Then the "locality" thing happened. This animal came from here, that animal came from there. The prices shot up again. Then they shot down again in the late 90ties. Too many captive bred animals. It wasn't and isn't feasible to go out and down to Texas to collect wild animals to sale/breed. This is an animal that was NEVER to common in the first place. Due to finding them in a small given area, excess to finding them, and etc. The scenario is the same. If you massive breed anything the market will become saturated with the captive bred species and prices will fall anyway.

: Those are some viable ideas, but I still think charging $200 per iguana would solve a lot of problems.
: This would:
: Keep most impulse buyers and children from purchasing them.
: Keep petstores from carrying as many.
: Hopefully encourage petstores to take better care of them because they would no longer be a throw away pet.
: Encourage people to gain more knowledge on caring for these pets that would cost more to replace.
: Probably discourage most people except TRUE iguana lovers from buying them in the first place.
