: Tail tip problems is a given with green iguana. They're mostly ALL TAIL!
: How old is your ig? If the tail tip is pliable, can bend it, soft then its not dry gangrene. There is a possibility from what your vet thinks that it can be saved. What works for me is zinc oxide. Slather the affected tail tip every night w/ it. You may also want to get another vet's opinion. But if the tail tip is stiff, hard as a rock, like a dried up piece of stick, dark brn-blk, shriveled up...then it is dry gangrene. Mostly occurs from the point of trauma on down. From whacking its tail against a hard surface, from retained shed, from getting stepped on or caught in something. It will need to eventually be amputated if it is dry gangrene. It is NOT an emergency tho. Keep an eye on it for the next couplea weeks. I can offer you some instructions on doing this VERY SIMPLE procedure at home but yer gonna have to e-mail me!
: If your the queasy type...have a vet do it!
My ig is 18 inches long, and the vet thinks he is at or under a year old. I just felt his tail and it sort of bends but is brown looking. He definately is shedding more now than I have seen in the last 3 weeks. I have only had him 3 weeks and am very new to this. thanks, Steph.
