: I buy my igs frozens peas and broccoli as well as carrot and they seem fine. anyone know if that will give them plenty of nutrients?
Actually, both carrots and broccoli are high in oxalates, which bind calcium. Both are okay as an occasional treat, but neither should be fed regularly. They also have high tannens in them, if I remember right.
Better veggies to feed are:
1)Any of the orange fleshed squashes (acorn, spaghetti, butternut)
2)Yellow squash (also called crook neck, or "summer squash"
3)zucchini
4)green beans
5) parsnips
6) peas (snow peas are good, but quite expensive so I just feed regualar. Actually, sometimes I DO feed frozen peas, but not on a regular basis)
7) bell peppers (red, green, yellow)
8)my iguanas LOVE blueberries. Love em, love em, love em.
Hope this helps with changing your iguanas diet. Frozen peas, carrots and broccoli just aren't going to cut it. Not even close. Use the above veggies, (always chopped fresh) and you'll see your iguana eating around three or four times a day! If you feed the right diet, there will no longer be the need to sprinkle the salad with the calcium phosphorus powder. Get the nurtients from the fresh foods, not from a bottle of vitamins.
I hope I have helped in some way! Good luck! And keep us posted with your progress.
