In Reply to: need some advise on rescued Ig (kinda long) posted by Sheri Shoemake on August 19, 2001 at 12:05:41:

: I've posted a pic of Lizzie before, but here's some history on him. We rescued him about 5 months ago from a guy who had him since he was 2. He has a burn scar on his back from the 1st people. This guy had Lizzie in a large walkin closet with UV lights and was feeding him 6lbs of food a week. He lived in this closet for 6 years. No sunlight for 6 years. Lizzie became a large Alpha Male who was VERY dominate over this guy & he couldn't take care of him anymore. Thats where we came in. Lizzie is 20 lbs & 6 1/2 feet long part of his tail has been broken off. He is one mean Motha'. We took him and had him outside in the cage the guy gave us next to our other Iguana. We thought the sun would do him good. It didn't it made him mad. So we finally had to put him back in a closet and he was happy again....now to the problem
: He has become increasingly more and more aggressive. He now lunges at us when we feed him and charges the door when we go in to turn his lights on & off. He won't let anyone pick him up to give him a bath (we have to spray him with a hose) Do any of you think that if we keep working with him, there is a chance we can tame him a little, just enough to not have him charge mouth open at us. I mean head bobbing & hissing I can handle, but those teeth!

Thanks for all the advise. We have had serious thoughts about welding gloves and a big leather apron. I didn't think about the cape thing (funny!) and putting some of our clothes in there. I do something similar with my bossy cat I rubbed her smell on our new puppy and she stopped hissing at him (soo much) I will try all of them. (but I'm not gonna video tape the cape thing.
Thanks again. I really like this forum, you guys are very helpful and don't attack people like some of the other forums. I'm so glad.
