Canned greens are no good

Congrats on getting the little guy/girl. Maybe after you fall in love with being an iguana owner, you'll rescue one of the many adult iguanas who need a home! I have two adult iguanas I've rescued, and I find it to be so rewarding. I really hope your experience keeping iguanas is a good one; they are marvelous creatures.

About the canned greens you found for sale...I'd avoid anything that comes from a can. The are much too high in sodium, and many of the beneficial nutrients are lost in the canning process.
Besides, I should tell you that I once tried to feed my igs a can of collard greens, just out of curiosity. The response from them was NOT good. They took one whif of the dark green slimey stuff oozing out of the can and looked up at me like I had lost my mind. They wouldn't even lick it or take one bite!

Better to stick with the fresh stuff. Afterall, when you buy/get an iguana, you are committing yourself to giving it the best care you can possibly give it. Chopping fresh veggies every day will soon become very normal for you. Just make sure to really cut them up into tiny pieces while your ig is a baby. Shredding with a cheese grater works really well for iglets, too.

I wish you luck! Keep us posted on his/her progress. Babies sure are cute, aren't they? Will you be posting a picture soon?
