D@mn! That's a toughie... I think that they should be able to tell if she is egg bound from an x-ray though, which leads me to believe there is a better chance that it is kidney failure. I agree with you NOT to do an invasive procedure if she is already not well. I also agree with you that you should NOT wait 14 days-- that could really be too late. I would probably try to get your vet to talk to one of the vets with an ultrasound personally (and explain the seriousness of all of this). Maybe she can get you in sooner. If it is the one that is further away, see if you can speak to him on the phone and find out how comfortable he is with this type of procedure-- maybe one of these people could consult with a VERY EXPERIENCED HERP vet by phone as well.
There are two important issues to keep in mind before all others: 1. Do you trust the vet giving you advice/ doing the ultrasound? (you must trust this vet first and foremost)
2. Time-- this all must happen as soon as possible.
This is just my opinion and I feel for you having to make these decisions. Good luck to you and your girl whatever route you take.
