SUMMARY:
--Found a herp vet (Doc M) at an emergency clinic and went last night.
--My primary short term concern was fluid retention (last small elimination was Saturday morning. since then fluid/slurry push was appx 200ml. (Can you say “full as a tick”!)
--Shirley was somewhat “impacted” (maybe due to the original dehydration?). Vent exam helped clear some fluids & a little solid waste.
--Neither abdominal exam or X-Rays (front & lateral) revealed kidney abnormalities, but. . .
. . .the blood work will be back Tuesday (and we’ll know more about those kidneys then).
--Doc M gave her 35ml of water subcutaneously (that does mean “under the skin:, right?) because I mentioned dehydration before I began fluid push.
--Swelling has somewhat decreased, in all three eyes, but they’re still bright red. Nobody can seem to figure that one out but Dr. M said she’s be researching it last night. First Dr. (A), guessed it was either VitA deficiency or symptom of systemic infection.
--Shirley POOPED ON HER OWN this morning!! (after LONG, LONG warm bath).
--Before leaving this morning (which I hated to do), succeeded in tricking into a couple of bites of greens, but she still wasn’t into it at all so also pushed 10ml slurry + 10ml pediolyte (sp?), and left her w/a plateful of her favorite foods.
--When I walked out the door, she was alert w/head up and red eyes open (although I’m not sure whether it was because she’s feeling better or if she was just getting over the indignities of the fluid push).
--I’ll feel allot better if she’s dug into that plate when I get home tonight . . . but even so, don’t think we can really rule out kidney problems until the bloodwork is back.

Will keep you posted . . .for my own sanity, if nothing else. My husband is out of town so you all are my only vent for all this.

Thanks,
Rebecca (& Shirley)

P.S. IZ. . ? Sorry my mom thought you were a girl. Evidently she confused someone else's hysterectomy w/whatever your second surgery turned out to be. Tell your mom that we enjoyed the story about your first surgery (it has a happy ending) and not to keep us in suspense for the 2nd story.
Head Bobs,
Shirley
