In Reply to: do igs bob their heads and bite on the neck to mate? posted by mark on August 18, 2001 at 00:12:50:
the 1st rule of ig behavior is that there is no rule that all igs follow ~ *grin* ~ there's always gonna be that one ig that does the total opopsite of what the others do ...
but yes, *usually* the male bites the female on the back of the neck ~ that's why females have a bit more fatty crest (where the spikes start) ...
bobbing is one way igs communicate ... there are a zillion different *kinds* of bobs + they all mean something different ...
not all bobs are aggressive OR sexual in intent!
there are "hello" bobs and "rub my head" bobs as well as "get the heck away from me" and "hey baby, ya wanna?" bobs ...
one clue as to the *intent* of the bob is to notice the dewlap ~ is it flared out or just flaaping along with the bobbing? flared out tends to mean a more aggressive message ...
zat help?
