Male and females both have dewlaps and spikes. The dewlap is that flap of green skin under their chin, both sexes have that. But the two large scales on the jaw that you are referring to, I am guessing you are talking about the jowls. A male has bigger jowls than a female, really when they are adults do you see the difference in the size. The "Green Iguana-the ultimate owner's manual" book by James W. Hatfield is a great book and it will no doubt answer every question you have about iguanas.
