you can try wrapping his head in something like an ace bandage temporarily. Just around his eyes (all three). This works better on some igs than others. Kind of puts them *almost* to sleep if it does work. You my want to cover his eyes with cotton balls in order to assist with light blocking.
Once he's bigger, you may want to try a Dremel on his nails instead of clipping if you have one. For now, I'd also suggest doing it by hand with a file as has been suggested.
