: I think it's time for Freddy's first clipping. I cringe everytime he's on me, and yesterday bled for the first time. Any tips/suggestions ????

****Yes! A tip from one who speaks with experience: Do it with a partner.
Josh has to help me, or vice versa. One person holds and calms (talking softly, stroking the head, etc.) while the other person quickly clips off just the sharp tips of the nails. Don't go too deep, or too short. They easily bleed if you do, and it really makes them dread the process in the future. You may have to try wrapping the ig in a small hand towel or rag when doing it, so you won't get clawed with the other legs/arms. Just let the one being clipped hang out.

Also, we can't do it all at once--most iguanas won't tolerate it for that long. We have to break up the chore into two or three sessions. We try to get the back legs done, and then we attack the front claws later on.

Also, we use human nail clippers. They make animal clippers, but I seem to go too short when using them. I prefer the normal human ones, but make sure to get new ones, that are really sharp and will make the chore faster. We have ones we bought just for the iguanas.

Hope this info helps...it works for us!
Diana
