Leash Question...for Double D or Anybody

I've seen pics of Igs with leashes, mostly of Double D, and Im interested in that particular leash. It doesnt seem to be a harness thing that could rub and grind down spines...do you leave it on all the time so the Ig gets used to it or only when you take it outside. Also, how exactly does it work?? I saw it on
