I have a night light red/black in all of my herps tanks, enclosures. The benefits of providing night lighting is NOT for the viewer but for your reptile!! It does NOT disturb their sleep as you have witnessed, serves a function in event ig DOES wake up can get his/her bearings.. (ever try and wake a sleeping iggy? Could do 10 hour microscopic brain surgery on em and won't wake!)...My igs roost in high branches, suppose they startle, wake and can't see a bloody thing in front of them but fall down into the dark abyss. Night lights also provide added heat, especially during those cool nights. In the wild iggies LIVE in the trees they inhabit, groping around branch to branch in the dark before settling. Have moonlight, and a very nice padded canopy floor to cushion their fall! My igs have one HUGE branch 4 & 6 feet off the ground and a very hard wood floor as their net. Even the 2 inches of potting soil substrate isn't enuff to protect them from injury. Not everyone agrees with the need for night lights and details like this in husbandry but do what works for YOU! If it isn't broke don't fix it!
