you've heard of dogs getting really jealous of a new baby right??? same thing ...
it's not just the chaos of a new family member, it's the fact that there's a new body in the house that's seen as competition!
the ig acting out is a way of getting more attention for itself (and so LESS for it's competitor!) ... same as a big sister suddenly regresses a bit when the new baby comes home ... throws fits over things that were never a problem before, wants a bottle when she hasn't had one for months, etc ...
(i have 3 g-daughters ~ the newest was born within 3 wks of her big sister's 3rd + 1st b-days ... can't help but compare toddlers and igs!!!)
never under-estimate how jealous an ig can get!
iZ never minded my toddler g-daughter, but when the new baby was born last summer? he threw hideous fits of jealousy for weeks every time the baby came over ~ or if he smelled her on my shirt ~ or if he heard a baby cry on TV!!!!
it DID get better as the baby grew and didn't spend quite SO much time being held ~ (+ now we're doing it ALL OVER again with the newest arrival ...)
it might take a bit more effort since the baby actually lives there instead of just visiting gramma's tho ... :) ...
we tried to puppy-sit for my son's dog a few months ago ... and again, iZ freaked out over what he saw as an intrusion ... definitely an ig-temper-tantrum!!!!
it's hard to go from being "an only child" ... whether you're really a child or whether you're an ig, you don't understand why it seems like you're being replaced ... AND ... it's just as impossible to explain to ig OR 1st child that they're still just as loved ... :)
ok, all of THAT said, it sure wouldn't be a bad idea to take the ig in for a check up and make SURE that it's "just" jealousy ... cuz have also seen iZ act out like that when he was getting sick and had no other way to tell me ...
hmmmm ... either way, it seems like attention-seeking behavior ...
tell her good luck! sounds like she's QUITE busy!!!
Bon. + iZ
