I got a phone number for one of the vets listed at ARAV. She is an exotic only vet, I didn't talk to the vet but made an appointment for tomorrow after work. I explained Zila's situation to the rep and she said Zila needs to see a vet asap. She said the black on the fingers and hand could be an infection (I asked our local vet about this and her opinion was if it was an infection not only one arm would be swollen but all 4 legs would be??). I guess I feel much better knowing they only see exotics. I look at it like how can a vet know tons of stuff about both exotics and domesticated animals. It's like taking my car to our transmission guy for motor work just because he says he does motor work also. I feel for somebody to be good at something they need to study that alone. The vet is about 2 hours away...could've been worse. Some that were on the list were about 4 hrs away. I'll let ya'll know what I find out tomorrow. Thanks for the help.:)

: I called both vets listed as herp vets in my state. Both very quickly recommended I start feeding small crickets. I ignored the first one but explained why crickets shouldn't be fed to the second. She said she had never heard this before and thinks they would only be bad if that's all that was fed to the ig. I don't see how any vet that is suppose to know ig's not know that animal protein is one of the biggest "no no's" for igs. I called an exotic vet that is out of state and *they* explained to *me* why crickets shouldn't be fed . My question is should I ship Zila to an out of state herp vet for treatment. I know he needs to see a vet but shipping is kinda scary. At first Zila's 2 fingers were black...that's when we went to the reg vet who said Zila was malnourished and dehydrated and felt the black toes were due to shed. He's not shedding and I've been soaking the little guy daily to be sure it's not shed. I knew he was malnourished and dehydrated because he had stopped eating. I've been force feeding, soaking, sun bathing and everything else I can think of but he's not getting better. He's not all wrinkled like before but the black has spread to all fingers, hand and is going up his arm. His arm is still swollen and he hardly ever moves it...mostly drags it behind him. I took him out side Saturday for some sun...we were out there for about 5 hrs and Zila seemed to be doing better. He walked around more, exploring the flower bed and even ran from me each time I went to pick him up. I thought he was getting better but Sunday he didn't hardly move again. We went back outside in the sun for about 1/2 an hour. A few minutes after I put him down he went to the bathroom. He took a few steps up and I noticed that it looked like it was only urates that came out. He just sat in the same place for the rest of the time he was out there and when I picked him up to take him in I noticed something stuck in his vent. It looked like foam from a couch but looked much harder. I didn't want to try and pull it out because I didn't know what it was. Is there anything that can come out the vent that shouldn't be? If it's still there today should I try and pull it out? His sides are also lumpy. When he's laying on his basking stick he looks normal but if I pick him up and his hind legs are stretched back his sides look like 2 large lumps instead of a smooth fat body. One of the lumps is longer than it is wide and looks like an enlarged intestine. I was wondering if he might not be using the bathroom enough and the food is just building up inside him. The large lump is very squishy almost like it's full of air. Any one have any suggestions? I'm running out of ideas and don't know what else to do. The exotic vet I talked to said all he can suggest w/o seeing Zila is for me to keep doing what I'm doing. He said that in baby ig's (can happen at any age but bayies suffer more quickly because of size and more delicate) lack of nutrition can cause the circulatory system to fail. This is what he seems to think is causing the black toes and foot. Anyone ever heard of this and if so can it be reversed or will the black keep going up the arm? The vet said it sounded as if I was caring for him properly, I'm just not sure if it's working.:(
