Yes, our male will get an orange color to him during the breeding season.

However, I've also noted times when both he and the female have gotten "orangish" after a really good dose of real sunshine after a long spell of rainy no-good days. One time I overdid feeding carrots and we really had some orange going!

So there are 3 possibilities that I've experienced. But in most cases it is going to be due to breeding season.
