if at all possible, no lights at nite ~ especially not a light that's shining right on the ig ... doesn't make it very easy to sleep! :)

*generally*, about the *lowest* you should let it get at nite is 70-75 degrees ... might consider something like a ceramic heat element (CHE) that puts out heat but no light ... they get VERY hot to the touch tho and so it's extremely important to make sure there's NO way the ig can come into any contact with it ... search the forum for posts regarding "radient heat panels" ... a much safer alternative ...

as far as if arching their back means they like it or not ... hard to tell from just that ... if he's leaning "into" your touch, i'd take that as a positive reaction ... igs have all sorts of body language things to communicate with us and it's kinda tricky when you're just getting to know each other, to know what means what ... it's not *automatically* the same for every ig ...
sometimes iZ REALLY likes his back rubbed + he'll push into my hand the same as a dog/cat does when you pet 'em ... other times, he swats at my hand with his foot which translates into "Leave me alone!" ... :)

color changes are also a way that igs can communicate with us ...
here's a link from a couple weeks ago about color changes (sorry ~ i'm too lazy tonite to re-type when i can just link ... :) ) color changes

but NO, just getting darker does NOT mean your ig is geting sick ...

hope some of the rambling helps ...
Bon. + iZ
