could it be old food?

my boys sometimes smear themselves up in old food...i have to clean it off or it will get moldy....the first time i saw Z? doing it ...i flipped...(i saw this orange spot on his face under his eye and was like,...what is that...it looks furry...is there an orange spot disease...??!!)
well...after a bath, i scrubbed it a little and it was a piece of icky old dinner.....so see if thats what it could be?
