it *does* tend to get alittle bit *less* frustrating as time goes on ~ mainly i think cuz you figure out how best to filter all the conflicting advise into something that makes sense + works for *you* + *your ig* ...
one of the 1st care books i read when i met iZ almost 5 yrs ago, actually said that they have gizzards like birds + need to be fed sand ... it still TERRIFIES me that i came so close to actually doing that ... (fortunately, i found kingsnake 1st ...)
but that example just shows how very little was REALLY known about raising a healthy ig even 5-10 yrs ago ~ and that's the problem ... it's not an ages-old 'science' the way caring for cats/dogs is ... and even with *them*, there's still conflicting advise ...
and it's why it's recommended to read, read, READ as much as you can ... and the bottom line is that you have to decide for yourself what makes sense for you + your ig ...
for diet, what i did when 1st starting out was to only feed the things that pretty much *everyone* seemed to agree on ~ collards + stuff like that ... and read + think + ask questions about the rest ... the vegies/greens that are on the "?" list, i only feed rarely or not at all ... alot of the foods that are questioned, are only potentially unhealthy if they're *consistantly* fed as a major part of the diet ... once in a while, as a treat or a change of taste to keep the ig's interest up, shouldn't be bad ... but~ that's MY opinion ... *grin*
read + ask questions + listen to people who's opinions you respect ~ 'talk' to people who have years of experience, preferrably with multiple, multiple igs ~ igs who are healthy after being in their care for some time ...
what works for some, may not work for others and that just adds to the confusion ...
at the risk of offending parents of humon kids ~ the more i think about it, the more i see similarities between igs + toddlers ~ and just look at how many varying opinions there are on the care of a *human* child!!!! *grin*
in both cases, you have to read, learn, ask questions, decide for yourself + hope that you're doing the right thing ... sometimes, you just have to follow your 'gut instinct' in some things ... if something new (like the active uv)isn't outright *dangerous* or obviously harmful, give it a try next time you need to replace your current uv bulb + see what YOU think ... maybe you will notice a huge difference, maybe not ... :)
but ya know what?
same as with raising humon kids, it's never going to be totally frustration-free ... and if we didn't have places like this forum + various e-mail lists to vent/cry/etc on, we'd ALL be stark, raving bonkers ... LOL
Bon.
(who needs MORE caffiene, is totally wiped out from work this week and THEN sat for the 3 g-daughters last nite ... i'm not sure that i didn't put a diaper on iZ + give the baby a nice plate of warm greens ...)
