Roxy is now moving into a brand new cage we built her over the past two months+ she has been living in a 5tall and 4 wide after moving out of the "box" she lived in before we adopted her. If anyone doubts that iguanas need HUGE cages to live properly please read on...
Roxy was four feet exactly when we got her. Her cage was the bocx described above. Her previous owners said she was pretty much the same size when they got her at 3 years old (four feet) I adopted her at almost 5 years.
Since giving her the cage she is in now, she has grown 6 inches and sheds 24-7. So much for them telling me she was "pretty much at her size for good" because in her 4th year I got 6 more inches "out of her" with proper care, in only 8 months. It has been an amazing growth spurt, I almost cannot believe.
Her new cage is 6 tall, 6 long, and 4 wide. But have set up a basking station because she enjoys being out of her cage most of the time. It has a removable "box" built into the bottom for proper cleaning, and if we install an active uvheat we have placed the cage in a tall room so the light can be the proper distance away.
Not to mention since buying her two 4 foot UVB lights, instead of the one 18 (?) incher they had for her she has been 100% more active.
So new iguana owners & old thinking about the value of spending that much money to build a cage and get proper lighting, IT IS WELL WORTH IT!
Here's to another foot and a few more pounds for 2002!
