Iguanas are very expensive pets to maintain. Our setup for our three year old cost well over $700, and we did not buy a comercially built cage. (When I bought Bad Boy @ a pet store, they told me his aquarium would last him a 'lifetime'. I guess they didn't plan on him living for more than three months.)

They require very specific lighting, heat sources, humidity, food, abundant space and regular veterinary care from a 'herp-qualified' vet.

If you are willing to spend an inordinate amount of time preparing food, disinfecting, preparing for egging or agressive behavior during breeding season, dealing with abrasions and scratches, and generally not being apprecaited for it, then maybe an iguana's for you.......................IF SO, please, please consider adoption. There are many iguanas available for adoption. (Once an iguana hits 2 feet, most people do not want to deal with them any longer, thus the high number of adoptees available.)

Think it through, long and hard, but in the event you decide to adopt, please let us know. Many peeps on his forum are trying to place iguanas for adoption.

I appreciate your foresight in asking BEFORE you bought an ig.

Best of luck to you in your search for the 'right' pet
