I agree that until your ig is 100% better free romaning can be dangerous because of bone breakage. If you can keep your ig calm and allow it to only walk around and stand close by if it starts to climb something then the exercise would be good. As far as the cats go I'll explain my situation and how we all still live together. We have 2 cats, 3 dogs and 2 ig's. All are kept in the home w/ us. The dogs want to use the cats and the ig's for toys, the cats HATE the dogs and want to use the ig's for toys, the ig's HATE the cats and the dogs. All need their time outside and play time inside so this is how we do it. We keep our dogs gated in the kitchen as long as we are inside also...if we're not inside the dogs knock the gate down and have a hell of a time chasing the cats...So when it's the ig's turn to go outside we leave the cats inside put the dogs outside (back yard) in their kennel and allow the ig's to free roam our front yard. Same thing goes when it's time for the cats to play outside...dogs are kenneled and the ig's are caged. Inside it's more tricky...knowing the dogs will stay gated in the kitchen as long as we are inside and the cats won't go near the kitchen we have nothing to worry about there but when it's the ig's turn to free roam indoors we either put the cats in a large dog crate or shut them in a bed room. It works great...the ig's run all over the living room climbing on everything (including the cats tower...lol) w/ no worries of the ig's becoming play objects. You could let your ig free roam anywhere you want as long as you put the cats up first. You don't have to have an ig only room all the time...only when the ig's are out.;)
